Social and population background

The population of Newham increased by 10.7 % from 270, 091 to 298,916. Population growth occurred in all age groups apart from 65 + which declined by 2.3%. The largest ethnic group is those of Asian origin with 106 200k members which make up 35.5 % of the population.

The white population is the second largest group with 71 100 individuals making up 24.5% of the population. The Black and other ethnic group makes up 50 000 and 54 000 of the population and stands at 16.7 + 18% total.

There are some health issues for the area with obesity among children , smoking and low levels of physical activity. There is a disparity between the most and least male deprived residents on number of deaths due to circulatory disease 28.3%, cancers 28.2%. For women, it is cancers 30.2% and mental/behavioural with this including dementia 21.8%

Heritage and sustainability funding sources £££

The first option of funding that is available is:
 

National Heritage Memorial Funding.

 

To gain this funding the heritage site needs to be for aspects such as museums or historic buildings and land etc. The maximum amount of funding that can be obtained from this is:

 

 £5 million per annum.

The second option of funding that is available is:
 

National Heritage Lottery Fund

Similar to the first option the funding can be awarded if the funding is used for museums or repairs and conservation. The amount of money that is granted has no limit. However the starting amount is:

 

£3000.

 

The organisation also offers grants, not just loans.
